Fishing in Ottawa
I'm heading to Ottawa on the weekend and am going to be doing some fishing there. Maybe in the Rideau River, along the way there and if I can find anything else out that way.

My wife had a camp site on a lake somewhere out there when she was a kid and remembers her family fishing a lot, she wants to go back and check it out. Clayton Lake I believe is the lake.

Does anyone fish out that way or have any experience out that way?

What's biting this time of year?

Is there anywhere out there to stay away from?

Any pointers or tips would be great, thanks.

RE: Fishing in Ottawa
We are definitely hitting the fall fishing patterns here. A warm day will bring in the bass. A cool day will push them out.... A cool evening will bring in the walleye and warm evening will push them out.

People are are reporting good walleye action on the Ottawa.

Two public spots I could recommend:
- Watson's mill in Manotick. Chance for Walleye, Bass, Pike, Musky, Carp; I prefer fishing north side.
- Kars boat launch on the Rideau River. Chance for Walleye, Bass, Pike, Musky (generally better fishing north and south side and close off the east side)
Here is a reference map to use for other locations:

If you need more info let me know.

If you need any current information you can go here, he will point to you to some local spots (Kars generally):

RE: Fishing in Ottawa
I liked there page, I will check them out for sure.

I looked at Kars on google earth, I'll check it out, Hopefully not too many people. Fish from the concrete dock? Do you have to pay or anything?

Watson's Mill, Looks like a Bridge type thing that goes across. Is that where you fish from? Do you have to pay or anything?

Thanks again for the info!

RE: Fishing in Ottawa
Kars is a public boat launch, you can park right just a down the street, free.

Watsons mill has free parking and the dam is were you fish from. I prefer the north side.

Also careful because around thanksgiving they start draining the canal and lowering the water level for winter. I am not sure when it closes this year. This affects everything North of the Long Island locks to the Ottawa River. Kars and Watsons Mill are south of that point so are generally unaffected. It may close as soon as October 13th.

RE: Fishing in Ottawa
Looks like the canal closes on/after October 12th, so I guess anytime after that they will drain it (was reading says could be a day or a couple weeks)

Bonus that I'll be down before that!

RE: Fishing in Ottawa
I scored an extra day for fishing, turns out im not comming back until monday now. So I'll have all of Saturday and Sunday in Ottawa fishing. Should find some fish in that time. Planning on stopping into Manotick Bait and Sport to grab a couple things that I don't have and get setup for some live bait fishing.
