It is one thing to catch the odd out of season species, but another thing entirely to remain in the same location and continue to catch them.

Not trying to be mean, but just pointing out the proper action an angler should take to avoid catching out of season fish.

Not to be that guy but you know smallmouth bass doesn't open until late June, right? It's illegal to target an out-of-season fish... of course if one happens to bite while you're fishing for pike or panfish, and you release it quickly, that's fine, but it sounds like you had bass patterned and were hitting them...

Fair comment. I was actually targeting pike — which I have caught at the Bertie Boat Club in the spring before. All catch and release, obviously.
