Video of some OOS bass fishing on Lake O
Habitual breaking regs aside (read the comments), it's good to know that the lake isn't just for trolling salmon.
Still, I'm surprised nobody has given them flack. |

Those are some nice Lake O Bass. Only bass I ever caught in Lake O are a few 3-5lb largies at the Marina in Scarborough Bluffs. Hard to catch though

Consistent quality catches of Smallmouth on Lake O can be tough from shore. Better off hitting the lower tribs (not piers) if restricted to shore fishing.

The bass enter the tribs, but by the time season opens I haven't seen any left.... yet. This year may be different.

RE: Video of some OOS bass fishing on Lake O
Last year, I caught a couple smallmouth bass in the lower Credit during late August and I know there were many smallmouth there as someone else also caught many and they occasionally jump out of the water giving me a good idea of where they are. I'm assuming this is the situation throughout the summer in the lower parts of most GTA rivers.

There are year round resident populations.......... perhaps not as large.......... but spunky. <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

Have you caught smallmouth in a season other than summer in a trib before? I've read about the resident populations but during the fall/spring all I see are steelhead/salmon being caught. |

I've caught a random 2lb OOS largemouth pretty high up on the Don river by bayview in late April. I was wading up and down that stretch (public park) looking for anything, maybe some trout, but only found tons of creek chub and when I walked over a sunken tree, this bass came out of no where. Looked pretty healthy too despite being from the Don. When I was walking through the forest, a huge deer jumped over me as it was being chased by someone's dog. Scared the crap out of me! |

This year may be different. Yes I have. Spring not as much as fall. Somewhat different techniques from salmon or steel head. Plus the big boys spook the bass out in the better larger lies. Prior to the creation of fall sanctuaries on one trib - fly fishing "wooly worms" was a fun outing for pan size smallmouth (~1#). Cheers, OldTimer <>< I once gave up fishing.
