Not sure what his setup was at that time, but from what I heard from my family, was that he had the boot style waders and the water filled into them when he was fishing a river under a bridge. He was with his wife at the time but she couldn't swim or do anything to help. They were an elderly couple, and she couldn't speak english so people driving by couldn't understand her pleads for help.
But in the end, he died doing what he loved. And fortunately passed down all his fishing knowledge to me.

Bass on a fly would be crazy! I never heard of people fly fishing for crappie and bass, mostly trout. I'm planning to learn more about fly fishing this summer and hopefully get some catches. So far I've only got creek chubs, sunfish, and trout on the fly.
hehe, once I have tried fly fishing for rock bass, it's also interesting.

Just remember you cant target Bass at Mount Joy until next Saturday.

In some parts of mainland china, a master fisherman is responsible for mentoring the village fishermen and is basically responsible for feeding the population. Certain traditions and techniques are passed down from generation to generation, each village has it's own uniques styles.
I'm guessing that this tradition might not have continued in many regions because of modern commercial processes, but I was taught and mentored by him and I plan to pass on my knowledge to an apprentice once I attain at minimum 50 years of experience.
Not something commonly known I guess but it still exists in the poor regions of mainland china

I don't think fishermen in mainland China knew the technique of fly fishing 10 years ago.

LOL. Fly fishing is something I know little about and am looking to improve in by using this forum. I'm no fishing master by any means, I was just mentored by one and taught traditional techniques of a certain region.
And I'm sure they knew about fly fishing, it's been around for a very long time
