Great looking trebles, MikeH! Valid points from everyone! Over the years I have caught many many pike with no leaders but generally when I'm bass fishing. If I am targeting pike specifically I always use a leader but typically a shorter 6"-9" titanium leader(tippet). The ones that I use are from a local company, Stringease they are a single strand 20 or 30 lbs titanium leader. Ultra thin, very little effect on bait action especially jerkbaits which are probably my favourite lure to throw for pike!

oh yeah someone else also mentinoed to me about those titanium leaders, it was like 10 bucks at bps. oh yeah i love those jerk baits. i can almost always sense that bite..everytime i twitch twitch pause lol..
I've been fine fishing for pikes and catching a fair share of them with just braid line. Just got to check your lines often for any wears and tears.
I use very short metal wire can get it from bps or sail
