I recently sent off a written question to the MNR re the Spencer Creek’s extended season for Rainbow and Salmon.

This is my question:

“I thought it wise to clarify some rules as I find something not very clear in the current fishing regulations.

In the 2014 Zone 16 regulations it shows under areas which have an all year open season for Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Pacific Salmon :

“Spencer Creek - City of Hamilton from Hwy. 102 (Cootes Dr.) to Lake Ontario.”

However Spencer Creek itself flows into Cootes Paradise, and these waters then flow through the RBC Carp Barrier, then the Desjardin Canal before actually reaching Lake Ontario (being the Zone 20 boundary just past the railway bridge over the Desjardin Canal).
My question: are all the waters of Cootes Paradise and through the Carp Barrier to the Zone 20 limit then included in this extended season?”

This is the MNR answer:

“The area to the edge of the Zone 20 limit, which includes Cootes Paradise and the waters through the Carp Barrier, are included in the extended season. Should you have further questions regarding fishing regulations in this area please contact Jeff Columbus, Enforcement Manager for the Guelph district office at 519-826-4305.”

Good to know…………………………………….

Glad they got back to you. What was the turnaround time?
Turnaround was a tad slow- almost 1.5 months................ then almost overnight & apologized for in writing and in a follow up phone call - after my 3rd email copied my MPP and the MNR cabinet minister.
