I ventured out to hit the shores of Lake O last Saturday for a few hours in an effort catch a bass for opening weekend. It was a bit of grind, but I was able to land 2 fish.
I started around 630am. It was a warm, calm but overcast morning so I started throwing a top water spook. This was the first time Ive ever used a "walk the dog" style lure so it took me a bit to figure out how to "walk the dog". At about 730, a little Pike hit my spook, and just like that I got my first fish of the day!

As the sun came out and thr wind picked up, I started throwing a chatter bait. I walked a lot of shoreline and covered a lot of water and Nothing! I found some good weed beds and pad growth so I tied on a Texas rigged senko. Still nothing. I kept walking and found a stone retaining wall with scattered weed and chunky rocks, next to a marina. I decided to try another new (to me) bait/technique, the Ned rig. By this time it was about 1215pm and I was supposed to leave an hour earlier, but I didn't want to leave til I caught a bass. I left by 1230pm cause I caught this big boy! It weighed 3.14 lbs.

It was a grind, just 2 fish with 5 hours between bites, but it was still a great outing! I was able to catch fish on two new baits/techniques!
Did anyone else get out for the the zone 17/20 Bass opener?
