Wherever you live, check out your surrounding neighborhood on Google Earth (forget about Google Maps, it's great for roads but wildly inaccurate for ponds). Guaranteed you'll find some small ponds only a few km. from your house.
The satellite view will show possible access points, fishing spots, inflows and outflows, structure (underwater humps and points), and sometimes even what fish are present (muddy water frequently suggest carp).
Scroll through the history function to see the water body at different times of the year. Looking at an area from late fall to early spring, when there's no leaves on the trees, often reveals foot paths through the woods.
Just remember that small ponds have a limited number of fish and a determined few could devastate the population. Eat free for a week or enjoy a peaceful pastime for years.
