Angler Award Programs
I’ve never really spent a lot of time fishing in tournaments or derbies as I prefer my fishing time to be a bit more relaxed and un-crowded.
However I do find it amusing to apply for an angler award when a qualifying fish is caught.
The qualifying lengths and weights provide us a definition, or yard stick, of what is a trophy catch. These goals are not something you will do so very easily and as such make the achievement of same an even more joyful experience. It’s free. - And just plain fun to do.
For fish caught in this province (Ontario) - there are only 3 programs available:
- The OFAH Ontario Angler Awards
- The Mepps Master Angler Awards
- and The In-Fisherman Master Angler Awards.
All three heavily support catch and release.
Of the three I find the OFAH the best, and in my thinking - one that should be supported.
Plus the OFAH lists on line the entries and locations (updated weekly) – this itself is a handy resource to see what lures and locations are currently good.
