Has anyone tried just sliding a bell sinker down their line when they get snagged?
They work much better from a boat, but yeah, they work ok from shore too. It's worth it to at least try to get your lure back.

I think the problem is the weight doesn't have as much momentum when hung up from shore, where in a boat you can get vertically over the snagged lure.

It's not gonna hurt you to have these in your tackle box, so giver a try!
I recall that my dad had one (many, many years ago) that clipped over the line. It had a wire loop on it to which he tied a second reel of line, so he could pull the weight back up and slam it down multiple times if needed.
Sounds like I will have to keep that in mind.
Thanks for the info
Field report: I've snagged twice since I found out about this. So I used this twice, didn't work. I was able to eventually unsnag the first time by changing the angle, but I lost my old mepps #3 logn spinner on the last one =(. R.I.P.

It's still worth a shot for me though. Sinkers are dirt cheap.
Save your money, it work somewhat on a boat, but not on shore fishing especially when your lure snag far away from shore.

The weight will not even slide down to where you want to and I almost lost that Darn Lure knocker as well. Your line has to be thick and straight to begin with for it to slide. Imagine you coming down a zip line, but the line you were sliding on were not tight enough. You just get stuck at the middle, can't go any further.

Use stronger 15-20lb braided line when using lures so hook will bent after trying to untangle it. In many case, lost lures are part of our fishing adventure. Fish are normally close to the bottom, no lost lure means less fish in many situation.
Seldom recover a tangled lure using 6-8lb mono due to too much stretch, but land more fish when lure not snagged.

LOL I think this is an age-old dilemma.
