I will be on the bay hopefully on saturday the 5th If the wind dies down, but sunday looks like a very nice warm day.

I Will be ice fishing on the bay on the sunday the 6th.

Drop shot rigs with Active minnows hooked through just the top lip and one nostril/ or other way around, seem to work well in the bay.

also a small jig head can be used with one minnow hook the same way, let the line out to feel the bottom then have the minnow/jig just barely off the bottom, can produce a nice pike...

6 inches of solid safe ice yesterday,
should be forming better today and overnight with this bit of a cold snap..

from reports i have read on other message boards, Frenchmans bay seems to have the Safest ice within 1+ hours drive of the GTA.

When will you be there? I will have lunch with some of my friends at 11 o'clock in North York. let me see whether it's possible for me to go. I have never ice-fished before and I really want to have a try. where do you get the minnow?
I have bought an ice fishing combo, what else do I need?

You will need fresh line, you wont want to go with the line that came on your reel if you bought a combo that had line on it....

If you are to meet me, ill be out till sunset at best...

you have my number give me a call...

Here's an image of a drop shot rig,

I have tied 3 hooks to a line above a weight and tipped each with a minnow through the ice.

If the perch are on, its common you pull up three fish on one line...

In the Proper area.

Do Not forget there are Crappie in the proper areas too.

Minnows can be bought at "TIGHTLINE FISHERMAN'S WAREHOUSE"

good, but I still have some questions:
1. why the line comes with the combo cannot work? which strength is proper for ice fishing? 4lb or 6lb or 10lb?
2. what's the proper size of the standout hook?
3. what's the proper weight of the weight?
4. Are you using plastic or real bait?

Thanks

Live Bait,

and the only reason i suggest you do not use the line that some with the cobo is because it may have been sitting on the reel for a long period of time and is old an rotten or holds the memory of the spool.

its best to get fresh line.

6 lbs ice line should be efficient,

as to where you set your hooks, i believe its all preference.

hooks of any size would do i guess, jig heads of any size, and weight under an ounce for sure.
so long as all of the above does not out power your minnow.

Good luck out there.

You'll see bruce hanscombe park, I normally walk in from there, or ill walk in from the south side from beach point promenade.

most likely this weekend ill be walking out from bruce hanscombe park, and its only less than a 10 minute walk onto the ice to where ill be fishing it will be easy to find me. I''ll be wearing an orange survival suit.

make sure you dress warm and have good boots, it gets cold standing around on the ice.

I like to bring a bucket to sit on.
