Ontario Mussels (AKA clams) are protected - OldTimer - 05-26-2013 04:03 PM Hey, I was considering trying to salt some freshwater clams to use as bait, but I did remember reading once that some were protected by law. Much to my surprise I found that one quarter of native southern Ontario species (11 of 41) are endangered. I quickly forgot my idea to get some from a local river. I know in saltwater muscles are often my go-to bait. If you end up pulling some weeds or branches out of the water with your hook and you find Zebra Mussels, try to take them off or throw it out ect... |
