fishing locations within 2 hours of Mississauga? - Randy - 08-02-2013 11:35 PM

I plan to go shore fishing soon and was looking for somewhere which has much better fishing than what I access locally, within 2 hours I was thinking near one of the dams nearby locks on the trent-severn waterway would be a good bet. I'm mainly interested in bass but hooking my first walleye would be cool too. Apart from the lock areas of the Trent-severn, are there many other good shore fishing opportunities? and also do all of the locks have relatively the same quantity of fish or are there some that are better, I was thinking of Young's Point to go to, I remember going to Bobcaygeon a couple years ago and there were a lot of fish there.

Try hamilton harbour. Bay front park has some big bass around. I pulled out a 5 or so pounder 2 years ago there. Just have to do some searching for them. Spinners and cranks work well. Carp fishing can be a ton of fun from fisherman's pier just under the skyway bridge. A hair rig works the best with 3 or 4 corn kernels. Make sure to fish on the harbour side though.

Thanks but I'm trying to get out to somewhere less pressured and with more fish such as the Kawarthas and out of urban areas.

I've fished the Credit but haven't gotten good fishing out of it, I've never fished the upper credit though and I know trout are tough to catch. I really just want to catch some bass.

Grand river is fairly unpressured, although it depends where you go. Some guys get bass casting lures off of lake O shoreline. When I think about it there really isn't that many unpressured bass spots. Also lake O tribs like bronte and credit will likely have some bass and panfish in the lower section with a few miles of the lake. Once the salmon come in though they are nowhere to be seen.

Thanks for your help, I've tried the Credit many times as I said before but no bass, I know fishing is usually a lot better up in the Kawartha region as I've had good luck there before, I'm thinking of going to Young's Point and hopefully will catch a lot of fish.

You are right about Kawartha and fish being easy to catch. But I am also looking for shore fishing spots there but mostly only have found bass from boats whenever I hired a guide. Good luck....

There are usually shore fishing opportunities in between the Kawartha Lakes in the towns found there, typically there are dams which usually means there are fish nearby, just be sure to fish more than 75 feet away if fishing downstream.
