Outside of fishing what are your staple web sites for hobbies or general interest?

Here are mine:

Mental_floss for random interesting reads: http://www.mentalfloss.com/

Science Based Medicine to cut through all the crap reporting of flash in the pan medical studies: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/

Long reads as a source for good in depth reading: http://longreads.com/

National news watch the best Canadian news aggregate I can find (mostly politcs related): http://www.nationalnewswatch.com/

Pretty much all of my reading is done on: http://www.reddit.com/

It's very hard to describe the website, just because it is so open. It is a user based website where users submit links for others to view, comment, and upvote or downvote based on it's relativity and content.

There are subreddits for everything under the sun. I personally moderate 4 subreddits, all fishing based. r/MicroFishing r/SaltWaterFishing r/RoughFishing and r/IceFishing.

It's definitely a great website and often times I will learn about current world news and events before the news publishes the stories.

I do quite a bit of reading re fishing – most of it revolves around various forums, fishing groups, you-tube videos, on-line magazines, tackle manufacturers and retailers.

Away from fishing I suppose my on-line reading,(in order of time spent is:

- News, current events, editorials etc. and a bit of sports.

- Side searches and wandering off on topics or interesting things seen in the news. This can be extensive and end up quite remote from my start point as I pinball machine around the net………… smile. I call it my net enhanced ADD browsing.

- New (to us) food recipes – I enjoy trying new variations using regular ingredients – so I’ll just type in a few ingredients that I have on hand and see what comes up…pick one……… then make it. Gets interesting…………. And simple fun, always nourishing and usually tasty.

Cheers,

OldTimer

Wiki. I could spend hours on that site!
