to put the odds in your favor try to fish weekdays under ideal conditions to avoid the crowds. I try to fish overcast days, after a few days of warm weather or fish pre storm. Obviously it limits your days and you may not have the luxury to do this but it can increase your odds to catch fish. Also if you live on a lake where they have a tournament, I have never done well under those conditions and would recommend seeing where anglers fish to pick up potential spots.

Ticks... As if poison ivy and wild parsnip were not enough.... I now have to fish with long pants, long sleeve shirt, hoodie (to keep them off my neck an hair if I go through the tall grass) and use more bug juice than ever before. I used to be able to come home and go out with the family not I have to shower to get the smell off of the replant off.

Now this is totally opposite to what I've been focusing on. I've been focused on trying to cover as much water as possible =P Ironically this is the classic quantity over quality scenario lol.

Both of you have the right idea, I try different techniques when I get to a new spot but once I used my top water, crankbaits and drop shots I know what works in the area and what doesn't and I move on. Great think about shore fishing is I can pack up move down 100 feet and do it again. Now I know what the are has and doesn't have.

Biggest thing for me when i started shore fishing was to get some waders or good rubber boots and be prepared to get off the beaten track and find less preassured fish.
