Good selection of UL tackle in Toronto? - shapirus - 05-29-2015 10:40 PM

Hi everyone.

This is my first post here, I am new to this forum as well as to Toronto, Ontario and Canada. I'm visiting Canada for a few months so I figured why not go fishing here, as it promises to be great.

While I was able to gear up more or less decently and actually have had a few times of good fishing, I am still having a hard time finding certain ultra light tackle to cover my needs for fishing in specific waters. In particular, the micro spoons which are light metal spoons with single hooks in the weight range of usually 0.5 to 3-5 grams, like these ones, for example:

This is an absolutely essential thing to fish where you can't really use rubber plus jig heads or other fast sinking lures because of a weedy bottom (you simply end up catching weed on your lure every time as soon as it gets close to the bottom), and they just give you so much control over how deep you want them to run, etc.
They also avoid obstacles pretty well and are less prone to snagging due to them having single hooks. Really handy thing to explore unknown waters.
Known to be good for perch and I'd love to try them for crappies and other small species which are new and fun to me.

I have found nothing similar in Canadian Tire or Al Flaherty's store (which is close to where I live). It is possible to find something on Ebay, but all of that will ship from outside Canada which will take too much time, cost a lot to ship and can involve extra import duties.

Does anyone know any good fishing tackle stores in Toronto that might have decent selection of ultralight stuff? Also searched for the size 000 snaps, but to no avail. I know the snaps (not sure about the micro spoons) are available in Sail, but their nearest store is in Vaughan which is a bit too far away, so I tend to avoid getting there until I have more items in my wishlist.

Thanks everyone.

near the St.Clair West subway. also don't have a car currently, so relying on TTC for transportation.

Sail actually has several locations you can take TTC.... Or there is a lebaron (lebaron.ca) that also can be accessed via TTC they both have light tackle and a good selection.
Sorry forgot to attach the link for sail on TTC line...

Wow really, I didn't realize that their Etobicoke store is within the main part of the TTC network (i.e., they apparently will not charge the extra fare when going there, unlike for Vaughan, where they require extra $4 when you go north of Steeles Ave.)

I'll probably check them out, thank you.
