Hey JimPete,

Welcome to Ontario.

The Fergus area has some great fishing. Trout too.

Read the regs carefully the Grand has some unique restrictions in some areas.

Here’s a kick start for you:

The Grand River in the Fergus area is well-known for trout, especially brown. As OT alludes, some sections of the Grand are catch and release only for trout with only barbless hooks and artificial lures allowed, while other sections follow the regular (more permissive) FMZ 16 regualtions:

It can be a little confusing while you're figuring out the geography of the area. Elora Gorge would be one particularly scenic place to hunt for trout.

And there's good warmwater fishing in the Belwood reservoir nearby to ease your way into as well.

The Grand River Conservation Authority provides good resources about fishing in the watershed, see OT's last link.

Thanks for the info.. I think my biggest learning curve will be how / what to use to catch the different species Perch, crappy, walleye and pike as I have never fished for them... Trout I got
