Bass Spawning - MaxMortem - 05-14-2012 12:00 PM

I fish in the peel area and right now everything is spawning. I can see 2-3lb bass in 1-3 feet of water, 5 feet from shore just staring at me. Huge gangs of spawning panfish surround them having their little turf wars, as they try to steal a bass egg or two. Brown bullheads zippin around raiding nests and tryin to eat anything that crosses their path. With a good pair of polarized sunglasses its like looking into an aquarium. Was truly cool to observe this, even though I was dyin to catch some of those bass. I don't try though, thats no fun, plus I might interfere with their spawn, and season isn't open. Is everyone experiencing similar conditions or have you seen different spawning stages in other waters?

I went yestarday in Heart Lake in Brampton, I saw dozens of bass 1-3 feet from shore in size of my palm and smaller. I did't notice the bigger ones though.
