Upper Niagara River at Fort Erie - OldTimer - 06-09-2012 03:55 PM

I was so impressed by the recently posted diver’s videos taken just this May (it was posted here and on UTube) of fish in the Upper Niagara River - that I did some digging about on where/what/when for fishing in that location.

All seems positive and attractive for the shore fisherman. ………And multi species to boot.

Have any of you girls or guys tried giving this an actual go.... and have personally tried wading or shore fishing in the area near Fort Erie……… between the Peace Bridge & the international rail bridge?

Regards,

OldTimer

That video looks absolutely spectacular. I've heard great things about the river, but have never fished it.

Gas gas gas money.

I'd be willing to do a gas-splitting car pool.

I know few fishing spot, from whirlpool to outside the mouth of niagara river where someone can wade into it, quite shallow and rocky, a perfect habitat for SM bass, fish are spawning there now for sure. During hot summer months, I am not sure how successful it will be during warm temp since I never fished that shore spot, but my boat was there few times and we were able to get some fish on the deeper end. I saw others wading and fly fishing there. Since water consistently flow there entering the river system, it should be more promising than any type of lake with stale warmer waters.

Water moves in these areas, and snag-able. To develop mental confidence fishing a snag-gable river system, one needs to lose few tackle and understand what it takes to make our lure get close to the bottom without losing them. Retrieving it too fast will not catch the fish either. If it is bad for us humans, it is normally good for the fish!

Lot more fish for those who chose to take the challenge and spend the gas money to eventually master fishing the area. Less fishing pressure compared to any other places in the GTA. Gas money has always been our concern for Torontonians to go farther away. Car pool with few buddies is the only option. No money! No Honey!

Lake Erie is bass capital of the world! Average depth is 25 feet but almost as big as Lake ontario. Perfect fish habitat.

We have to think outside the box!
