Monster Mystery Fish! - Giuga10 - 11-18-2012 08:39 PM

I was fishing the "Little Rouge Creek" today and witnessed an unforgettable fish. Sadly I was unable to catch it.

Appearance:

Length - 1.5 feet
Girth - Unknown
Weight - 3-5 lbs
Body - Looked exactly like a Creek Chub, same body shape, and same black lateral stripe.
Face - White with a pinkish tone. Commonly found on larger Creek Chubs (http://i.imgur.com/EssNL.jpg) <---- Notice the pink on the lower mouth.

Location:

Water body: Little Rouge Creek
Environment: Deep pool about 4ft in the middle. Flat sand floor. No vegetation or structure.
Other Fish In The Area: Some type of Sucker species, Shiners, Creek Chub.

Activity:

Got spooked very easily, didn't want to eat anything. When spooked it would swim in an oval shape. Like this. Ignore the dots.

When neutral it would just sit about 1 inch from the ground and stay still.
When swimming the other smaller fish would get scared of the larger fish and make way for it to swim by.
I presented a full earthworm and half of another onto the hook and drop it right in front of its face and it wouldn't budge.

I was thinking it was just an exceptionally ;large Creek Chub but I don't think they could possibly get that big. Any Ideas?

Any info would help.

Thanks,
Giuga10

Nice find!

Well, it could be a sucker, resident trout, or even a steelhead. By its spookiness it was probably some kind of trout?

The side of steelhead have a sort of 2 tone coloration that could have been the stripe you picked up on?

That's OK. 16 posts is the number required to read the reports. This member was very clearly making spammy posts in order to reach that number.

Then he signed off with this last "post" on this thread here.
