DIY Downrigger anyone?
I should just make a canoe fishing subforum... yeah right .

May work in shallow waters - sorta - but I'd say that 16 ounces is a tad light for deeper trolling and you will still get a fair amount of angling out from perpendicular at trolling speeds with the drag of the downrigger line, weight itself and the lure setups.
