- 1 large flat plano box for big cranks, hooks, spoons, and rapalas
- 1 long handle collapsible net (most of the places you'll fish have very tall walls, or drop offs to the water. You don't want to harm the fish or break your line "flipping it" on shore.
- Pliers, spreaders, hook cutters (very much mandatory for pike).
- 1 landing glove...try and keep fish in the water and off of pavement, grass, or the ground. A glove will protect your hands from teeth and hooks and give you a good grip.
- 1 spool of flouro leader material
- 1 spool of extra line (better safe than sorry)
- 1 bag or 2 of soft plastics if nothing else is working.
- 1 ziplock bag of corn kernels if you want to target Carp - you'll often see packs swim by.

Also, important....Good Shoes! - you'll be walking a lot to cover water.

That's awesome Rob, thanks for the info! I've just switched to a backpack tackle set-up and it's so much more comfortable for me, can't believe I didn't do it sooner.

Questions: what's a spreader? How do you target Carp with the corn kernels? Do you just sink your hook with the kernels to the bottom? Float them in front of the fish?

We try alot of crankbait's out this way but mainly catch SM BASS and the odd walleye. We do really well for walleye using twister tails and finns minnows and in the summer when fishing is slower we down size our twisters and finn's minnows to 2 inches in length and do pretty well to.As for pike i do really well with spinners like the panther martin, mepps, and bushwhackers.

I don't know why so many shore anglers use the firetiger color but I don't seem to catch much stuff on that, usually for cranks ill use natural colors, white, yellow, or BLACK. well

Yep, of course!

I wouldn't go without firetiger. I have about 6 different baits that I use in various colors, but I have them in firetiger too. When conditions are tough, or the water vis is low or very low, firetiger is a must have.

In clear water though, the only thing that will hit it is pike, for the most part.

There is a huge reason why it's an available color on most hard baits, and I'm pretty sure it isn't because it doesn't produce...

Maybe it's just not a confidence bait for you??? (directed at bass)

I would say that the most “Indispensable” tools that I carry on me or in my fishin’ bag are:

Nail clippers with a lanyard attached – for clipping lines.
Needle nose pliers and/or forceps
Hook sharpening stone - small
Cheap plastic twine stringer
Cheap plastic hook disgorger
Swiss Army Knife or Lock blade

What are yours?

<>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><>

See you on the river.

I use a split shot pliers with a line cutter, works great on braid.

Gotta have good pliers

Gotta have a landing glove for toothy critters

A tape measure

An eye punch (for jigs)

A good knife

And a few others off of your list Oldtimer

I keep most of this stuff in my backpack though, not in my tackle box
