Why no musky population in Lake Erie?
According to my father-in-law there used to be a great population of musky in Lake Erie way back when .
Lake St. Clair is attached to Lake Erie, has about the same type of bottom structure yet Erie doesn't sustain a musky population. I thought when the gobies started becoming a pest that the musky and pike would move into the lake to feed on them, but that hasn't happened.
Any idea why we have a great musky fishery less than 100 miles away, on a lake that is attached to Lake Erie?

RE: Why no musky population in Lake Erie?
I don't know who told you there is no musky in Lake Erie...because, as an example, the Upper Niagara is a very famous musky fishery...the muskies certainly didn't jump up Niagara Falls from Lake Ontario side of the river...

Was this you asking the same question in 2008?

Just wondering...came across it when I was looking for examples of musky fishery in Lake Erie for you. You can email Sea Grant and ask qualified biologists that research the Great Lakes.

And here is a response from someone with the Sea Grant.

Eugene Braig, third post down.

All I did was Google "Musky Lake Erie" to dig for some info. Wink
While I'm reading...muskies are definitely found on the western end of the lake (Sandusky to Detroit River) and eastern end of the lake (Buffalo Harbour and Upper Niagara) and both are fairly good fisheries.
Again...I just type in "Long Point Musky" in Google and found these.

I don't have time to post more examples...you can simply do a search and see more examples...but I think I gave you some ideas here.
