Been around for a while. Haven't used it personally...but haven't noticed the need to use one yet. Most of the heavy surf stuff I cast usually have a topshot of mono anyways. 40lb mono won't cut your finger...unless you have delicate, sensitive, manicured fingers.

Like I said - for use with braid...............besides I don't think you'd want to spin your mono that tight........... not a great idea - end up with weakened line - just like the original Big Jon downrigger clips.

I know. And yes, you do not ever want to spin your mono that tight.

My point is...when fishing in the surf, with the need to use a mono leader to prevent abrasion of the braid against sand bars, you won't be holding braid with your finger to cast anyways. Even with a 13' surf rod, a 30' rub leader is not unreasonable at all...especially with steep beaches or beaches with deep trenches.. I've yet to cast braid straight off the reel in that environment.

There is also something called finger tape. Works just as well Wink

Yep.

............Or an old deer skin work glove with all but the index finger cut back.
