Getting back into fishing.. in Toronto!
Hello everyone,

Coming from Northern Ontario (HWY 11), it was always bizarre that fishing wasn't a big part of my family life, having only a few occasions to practice the sport when I was younger. Moving to Ottawa and more recently to Toronto and coming back from a vacation around Hearst and New Liskeard, I really want to get back into it after casting for the first time in years (the trout was great for those wondering). To my surprise, I see there are opportunities for fishing in the city. Living downtown, this is great!

I wanted to also take this opportunity to thank those who have been contributing to this forum. There's quite a bit of information and it seems like a wonderful community to partake in.

Now I don't know if I should make another thread for this or not, but I'm set on trying my luck in Grenadier Pond sometime (although this story is a little unsettling). I've always fished with live bait, but I don't believe it'll be an option for me, considering I don't want to spend an entire day on the TTC to get minnows and wet a line for five minutes. What would be the best options for the economically minded student (dollarama anyone)?

Seeing that there shouldn't be Pickerel (much to my chagrin) in the pond, I'm hoping mostly to tease out some tasty bass, although I'm more than willing to try out some of these fish I've never even seen before, like carp and crappie.

Otherwise, are there any particular spots I should try out?

I'll also try to get on the islands sometime. Any suggestions as to where I should cast out a line?

Anyways, thanks for the forum and apologies fur such a long winded message...!

Welcome!

If you plan on keeping the fish to eat I wouldn't recommend Grenadier Pond because of the recent, major die off, and multiple types of chemicals and poisons being found in the water.

Try using Small spinners such as Mepps Aglia size 0 or 1, or you can always use corn on a hook, just about every fish, will take corn, I've even caught a 6 lb Rainbow Trout on a single piece of corn.

Anyways good luck!

Thanks for the reply, Giuga. I've never heard of fishing with corn before. Amazing! Looks like I'll get a few cobs which won't set me back too much Wink

Is the mouth of the Humber a better idea?

Cheers.

Don't use a cob, buy frozen or canned kernel corn. You can get a can of corn for 50 cents at dollarama.

Never tried the mouth of the Humber before but it's worth a shot.

Good luck!

ATF? automatic transmission fluid?

If you do plan on going to grenadier pond during the week, let me know, I am close by and could join you during my lunch break.
It's only an hour, but still something.

It's cause I'll catch All of The Fish?

Big Grin

I'll keep that in mind Alex. I just need to get my equipment shipped back from up north first off. Can't wait!

Although I personally prefer Walleye, Trout and Bass, I'm open to pretty much anything. I'm particularly interested in salmon come september.
