For the record, I posted 8 trip reports last year. Of the 37 species I caught last year, there were only a couple that I went out of my way to find. All others were in the vicinity of places I would have been regardless. As far as the micros, the only special equipment is tiny hooks. Other than that, it's the same UL rod and line I use for perch and sunfish (and carp and catfish for fun). So, travel and gear should not be limiting agents, it's mostly convincing yourself to go after the smaller species. Once you have the mindset that small fish are as much or more of a challenge than (standard" sized ones, your total grows a lot faster. Personally, I have a "collectors" brain. I would rather drive a couple of hours for a chance at a new species to add to my list than drive a couple of minutes to Lake Simcoe for the same bass, sunfish and perch over and over, unless of course I'm looking for a meal.
