Google Maps
I've just recently started noticing that Google Maps satellite view of some areas changes perspective as you zoom in.
At high altitude it is in an almost directly above shot (traditional). But as you zoom down the perspective canges to a more angled view - perhaps at least 10 degrees off plumb - with much greater resolution. Plus the two perspectives may be in different seasons. Examples - Port Dalhousie, Ontario............. Ponces Inlet, Florida. Add street view and you have 3 views now in some areas. OT <>< I once gave up fishing. RE: Google Maps
Yes...Google Maps is one of the greatest online scouting tool.
I've identified good fishing spots before when people posted too much background in their fishing pictures...and I go and poach their spots...halfway around the world All you really need is enough time and determination to search the maps and identify likely fishy areas...then do the footwork to find the real fishy areas. Sometimes a spot may look great on Google Maps but it turns out to be a complete dud in the end... When I plan trips, there are night I spent 5 hours on Google Maps...and the next thing I know it was 2am... Once you know how to harness the power of Google search and Google Maps, you'll realize it is dangerous to show too much background in your fishing pictures. Malama o ke kai Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear. I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger. RE: Google Maps
I've been diggin about - and apparently they now have a 45 degree perspective view at "some" areas......... this must be what I've tripped across. ........ when available - It does bring up a drop down menu that allows you to turn it off..........

RE: Google Maps
That's odd.
Here's what I see: Clip of a section of the "Normal" view at Port Dalhousie: One click on the zoom and it changes to this: I also notice that "Earth" comes up rather than "Satelite" in the upper right drop down box area. RE: Google Maps
Doh! that'll teach me to write in a hurry..... Yes, it works for me in Google maps but not through Google earth. I have to flip from Google earth to Google maps to see the better pictures.
sorry for the confusion. |
