RE: Posession limits and fishing different bodies of water
Thanks OT, I've somehow never noticed the provincial posession limits in the regs before, but it answers some of my questions.

Funny thing about simcoe possession limits...if you look at the photos on the simcoe board, you'll see plenty of geezers with well over 2 whitefish lying at their feet. Not really related, but thought I'd put it out there.
Also, I'm relatively sure that Michael is the only one under 85/not slobby/not russian who fishes that lake..again going by the photos I see on-line.

i.e.: It is illegal to fish for and keep sturgeon on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River. It is legal to keep one sturgeon in season on the Quebec side of the river. You'd be rightly slapped with a fine for keeping one in Quebec then crossing back into Ontario and having it in your possession while fishing the river.

But in the freezer or stored in the house or car also counts as possession. The odds for a CO actually going to your house to check when they have no reason to are zilch. Still would be interested to hear what the Ministry has to say about this.
Possession is on your person, no?

They can check you, your car, your cabin, your house....

They have more power than the police. They don't need cause; They can just walk up to you and say open your cooler, your trunk, the door to your home even if they do not see evidence of wrong doing. You can not say no either.

In another province my brother in law was pulled over and had his truck and boat opened up and inspected for poached animals just because he was in an area in which bear poachers were active.

I witnessed the show when my next door neighbour had a crowd of cops & MNR show up one evening - to have a peek in his freezer - re hunting infractions.

He got busted.

If they are in your home then they caught you poaching and wish to see how bad you have been. They will take it as fact that you poached where they caught you poaching and that will be that... So the Guys that catch whitefish in simcoe all winter and put them in the freezer will get nailed , if they are found over the limit and then the officer may check the home for every fish over... Try to Prove you caught them else where and a fish market tag will probably not help.. Do not mess with conservation under staffed over worked and if they get pissed real ornery and I like them that way..

A conservation Officer may get a tip as well and just show up..
