Well, after a series of unfortunate events I'm in the market for a new camera.

My favorite camera I've had so far was the Canon Powershot S400. Compact and blazingly fast processor. this was my first camera.

After this one started acting up (mode selector switch broke after many years), I started using the Powershot a320. More megapixels was nice, but the camera was noticeably slower to operate.

After this one got dunked in water twice(florida dunked in water, then soaked during ice fishing) the buttons stopped working. I've been using my dad's old Nikon 8800. Gorgeous pictures, but the camera was very sluggish. Last week, I got the dreaded "system error 2" which has plagued this model and redners it inoperable... Actually, Muskibait was the first to notice it was having issues while he was taking pictures of the silver redhorse last weekend

So... I'm open for suggestions on what camera to get next. I'm looking for good macro capabilities to get stunning close-ups of fish. Something compact... and not top-of-the-line in case it gets damaged.

Personally knowing your record with cameras, I would suggest one that can take abuse...because you do dish out quite of bit of abuse and neglect No nice cameras for you

** BTW, can you send me the picture of you and the silver redhorse? I often like to see pictures I took for people to evaluate my skills (how the shot was framed, sun angle, focus...etc). It's part of my continuous learning and growth.

I've gone through a few cameras myself (I usually drop them or crush them).

I still have a Canon Powershot A590 - but it's battery compartment cover is just about to snap off, and the auto focus has gone sorta off....... not really great for the river - no impact resistance either. I only use it around the house now.

My lovely lady gave me an Olympus TG320 - it's droppable from my height, and is waterproof to boot - it serves my purposes but may not have the "stunning close ups" thing covered. I'm happy so far. I have dropped it several times, and I have dropped it once in the river.......... its still going. Battery life is good too.

I have heard good things about their latest the TG-2, it is more expensive (about $350) but may suit your needs, goes deeper , and can take even more abuse. Might be worth lookin' at?

So - what are you using now?

I usually just use my phones camera... but any dslr would be a camera I'd buy if I was in the market for one.

Well, after scouring Kijiji for a day or two I ended up finding a like-new Canon SD400! This was my first digital camera... way back when. It was up for $25... and it was right around the corner from work. Things just added up and I went with that one, which I'm using now.

Photo quality is not as good as my previous cameras... I guess times have changed and technology has improved. I'd hate to catch a trophy fish and be stuck with a mediocre camera to capture the memories, but I'm making due for now.
