Just wanted to say hello and thanks for having a great forum to learn from and contribute to. The 'other' forums tend to be unhelpful, elitist, sarcastic, and uninviting where as this forum has a wealth of information!

Little background info on me, I've been angling for 12+ years, apprenticed under a master fisherman for the first 2 years (he unfortunately passed away fishing a river that overflowed his waders). I've developed skills in many different techniques for artificial baits but my main thing is live baits.

I only harvest fish once a year from a secret spot I know of where a 6 fish bass limit for a couple days fishing can easily net 30-35lbs! I'll never tell where it is though Cool

Rest of the season for me is catch and release, because of my irregular work hours I usually fish locally in Markham and Richmond Hill and other GTA spots.

Hope to continue learning from this forum and hope to contribute wherever I can!
Welcome McFly,

My fishing also consists of mainly GTA and specifically Markham. Do you fly fish?

I dabble a bit with fly fishing! However, I'm pretty liberal by using live baits with my fly rod Big Grin I haven't caught any lunkers with my fly setup yet plus I have a hard time finding spots in GTA for fly fishing. Maybe if I get a pair of waders I can get enough space to cast.

Also, I never see anyone fly fishing in the GTA.. I wouldn't be embarassed though, I remember trying to fly fish at the Scarborough Bluffs when I was 12 LOL
I fly fish at all of my local ponds and love when I get the strange looks from passer byes. Once you get the hang of it, its a blast, especially with dry flies and poppers.

we should go fish sometime and you can give me some pointers on fly fishing since we frequent the same waters
welcome mcfly, i have not fished any gta spots yet. From reading this forum i've been noticing that GTA has some good spots everyone is going to. Which areas do you normally fish?

Richmond Hill, Markham, Brampton, Scarborough (though the fishing stinks if you ask me lol) and Pickering. There are some new places I want to check out, I usually hit up 1 or 2 new spots a week. I actually get out to fish at least 5 days a week! Wink
Big Grina lot of great spots to fly fish in markham area--been going there lately and hitting a lot of fish. a lot of places you don't need waders either.

For sure. Let me know whenever.
we should get a fly fishing day together where we could all go to a local spot and see what we can catch! Tell you the truth, I've never even met or seen a fly fisherman, everything I know about it I read in a book while growing up lol
