EDIT* Check out this crazy rig.... a FIZZING boilie...!

Pretty interesting nonetheless!

Jello sounds like a good idea. I thought about using ground-up soup cubes as well since they should disperse in the water.
Maple Syrup is popular as a coating for some boilies. I regularly used to have to ship bottles over to my brother in the U.K. but I think he may have changed to using Marmite.....

In my googling, I just came across the "Method" style yesterday.

Popped in "paylake style" just now and I found your post Lorne!

Awesome tutorial. How often do you check/replace your pack bait?
When I start I'll rebait and cast out several times over the first half hr. Sometimes I have to rebate that often because the takes are coming that fast. You can let it sit for hours if you want . If I get a take but no hook-up I will give it 5-10 minutes before re-baiting. I have caught a lot of fish doing this.

I dont know if I could do the "hours" thing. I just gotta look every 20 -30 minutes......... tops.
