For carp fishing i was wondering what baits are best to use corn/bread or worms? And to fish them would a pickrel still be effective or do i have to use another type of rig set up?

Firstly – here’s some older articles on carping from this site:

Second:

In the last 5 years (after the first article above) I’ve started to fish carp more often than 1 or twice a year, and actually targeted them occasionally – in such my methods have evolved.

I did go thru the use of exotic baits, hair rigs, etc etc etc………

But now after much time and a few bucks I’ve settled on using sweet corn kernels on a simple slider rig with #4 bait holder or circle hooks.

Bread works – but corn adds the “chumming” thing – so hence I stopped using bread. And – I do miss the snacks.

The hair rigs do work – but on the waters I fish the carp are really not all that sophisticated and learned (some probably have never seen many hooks before). I found that simple worked, so why do the complex.

Worms are not just carp bait……….. they are “EVERYTHING” bait – so expect EVERTHING to perhaps be interested.

I would admit that boilies, commercial prepared chunks, and such do minimize the sometimes annoying bites on small kernels of corn, however I found in my world that I could live with such and still catch large carp by picking correct venues, water conditions, and timing.

Lastly:

The last few years I found that corn-on-the cob I steam myself and then cut the kernels off repeatedly beat using store bought canned corn for success…………. But I only do this when it’s fresh corn season here in Ontario.

Pickerel rigs not recommended…………. But hey – try it………..??????????? smile.

Cheers,

OldTimer
