Nov 03 to nov 18 i have found large schools of these fish at times smaller sized fish than the one in the photo but otherwise the same fish.
Large 40 inch plus fat pike have been hunting these schools and so have the Rainbows....the birds have taken a few too.
These fish are in 10 feet plus of water along the shoreline.

Possibly some sort of large shad species. I'm not an expert though. Ken/Muskiebait should be able to figure it out!

Ah...nemesis of Michael and I...we spend an hour trying to catch these tricky buggers once!

American Gizzard Shad (Dorosoma cepedianum)

If they are still around, let me know. I want to try catching them again. Big Grin

Yeah, I figured that's where you were Big Grin
Dave did you catch that one or did it just wash up onto shore? If you caught it, share your method... Ken and I were failing hard last time we tried LOL

I think those are the fish that I had found dying off in Bluffers Park one hot day 2 years ago.
mepps#2willow yellow org red with corn.....reeled in front of the leaders of the pack.....worms failed...corn alone failed....small jig failed
i was trying to imitate a bug...i noticed they were curious of the corn alone but not enough to hit.....i messed this guys scales up trying to reel him up the wall..he tapped the wall once...felt bad...he swam away quick enough upon release.
oh and yes they were there nov 20.....they go back beyond the barrier bridge....then twice every half hour come racing back out along the east or west walls...then figure eight in the weeds......the pike swim in amoungst them sometimes....as well as small trout.....its a neat thing to see. when the current is running they can be found.
Will try to make it down for a peek...maybe on Saturday...

I'll bring my pike rod too with some shad imitating lures. Big Grin

Interesting they hit a corn tipped spinner.

I'll have to get a few things ready to try target them...including possibly the fly rod...casting will be interesting though...
