Fishing saltwater means you have to deal with barnacles, oysters, crabs...etc...all of them have sharp shells. 15lb mono is more resistant to sharp objects than 30lb braid (which has diameter of 8lb mono). Like you said, it also offer a bit of shock absorption. Visibility isn't much of an issue for a lot of saltwater fish. If they want to eat, they go for it. They are not at all finicky like freshwater fish (unless you're talking about bonefish, tarpon, permit or cobia). Anytime I can pick up fishing gear that cheap, I usually cannot pass it up . So, instead of spending $200 once on a great set-up, I'm probably going to end up with 20 purchases of $10 and a lot of useless gear LOL....
