Hamilton catfish fishing - ken6503 - 05-26-2015 05:14 PM

Hi Guys,

I am planning to go to Hamilton fishing for catfish again this weekend. the location I am going to go is "mouth of Desjardin to main bay" suggested by OldTimer in another thread. http://ontarioshorefishing.com/forum/Thread-Fishing-Catfish.
since I hope I can get something after driving more than 120 KM.
I want to get some information from you guys.
did anybody fish at the place recently?
what kind of bait did you use?

thanks in advance.

I haven't fished there recently. I have fished it in the past.

You can simply use worms on the bottom. There are Brown Bullhead and Channel Catfish. The ones were caught were not big though. The Brown Bullheads were about 3/4lb and the Channel Catfish were around 1lb.

The challenge fishing there is 1) lots of Round Goby that would eat your worms and 2) figure out where the rocks and the driftwood are located so you do not get snagged too often.

I can't tell you specifically where the snags are...because it changes a bit every year. But usually it is a bit less snaggy in the middle of the channel.

I've flew to the other side of the country, then driven 5500km to the Red Deer River trying to catch a Goldeye...and got skunked. Driving 120km to try out a spot for the second time isn't so bad. Wink

Huh

Second video was shot at Fishmaster's "marina" in Dunnville.

They used to charge $ by the car and by the person to fish there, they may still do this, don't know?:

I haven't been there in at least 6 or 7 years. Can be hit & miss.

Cheers,

Thanks OldTimer. you are amazing.

by the way. is it good season for fishing sheephead?
I just think if I can not get catfish, maybe try to get sheephead is good option.

do you know where the Dunnville lighthouse is. I heard somebody said, it is a good place for fishing catfish and sheephead as well. I searched many many times, I didn't get the exact location but a lot of pictures.

Jordan Harbour:

Also these guys have shot some video at Jordan Harbour for cats:

Never looked at specific spots on Welland....

Not sure if anyone has tried and how easily this works from shore but the warm outflow of the Pickering plant should be a magnet for cats.

The lighthouse you seek is actually at Port Maitland about 4 miles from Dunnville - right on Lake Erie.

It's better known for the perch fishing (when they are "in")........ and amazing hoards of ravenous Round Gobey.

Problem is it can get WOW busy, and I do mean WOW.
