Garage Sale Spoils - MichaelAngelo - 05-26-2012 10:30 PM

Post your favourite garage sale finds!

One's treasure is another's trash. Oh how sweet flea markets and garage sales can be!

Ryobi Power Leader 6000 (it's biiiiiiig LOL)
Mitchell 308 Pro (made in France! mint shape!)
Garcia Mitchell 408 (also made in France! spool oscillation seems off edit: just watched one on Youtube and it's spot on!)

Also was able to find some Mepps spinners and leader line. A nice haul! Big Grin

Good Catch! The parts are worth more..............

Nice find!
The 308 is going for around 30-40 on ebay.
whats with the line all bunched up on the front end of the spool on the 408, looks odd?

Yes it is - I'd check the inside gear assembly for proper assembly of the eccentric cam/gear which oscillates the spool support shaft in and out - looks like it may be sitting in one postion.......... may have been incorrectly assembled in the past.......... got nothin to loose by takin a peak..........

I'll have a look at the spooling, it seems to oscillate up and down properly I'll re-fill it to double-check the line lay.

Man I really want to take these reels for a spin... but I think I'll keep them safe and clean in storage now that I know how much they're worth Tongue

I saw a brand new in-box mitchell 308 pro sell for over $100....

MikeH, any suggestions on the Power Leader 6000... what can I do with it? LOL ... besides looking like an utter idiot while panfishing... LOL *evil grin*

I also own one of those mitchell france made reel, it was a reel I used for Salmon fishing on shore years back The drag system will hold up against a 20 lb fish. My belated Father-in-Law gave it to me 20 years ago, the reel was at least 40-50 years old, but in great shape.

I retired the reel since it was heavy, mine also made clicking noise, the clicker seem to be standard on some of these models. These models seem to still be available on used market out there. Ad for sale seem to pop out often on line locally and on ebay. Worth roughly $30 if it was in good shape.

Catfish and carp...although I'm always a little cautious about the durability of graphite spools.

Then again, I just fought a 50lb cownose ray (butt snagged) down in Maryland on a 4000 size spinning reel with 30lb Powerpro, 15lb mono leader and #8 baitholder hook...that was nothing short of a miracle, a lot of patience and some fish fighting know-how.

Being under-gunned must make for a very interesting situation haha.

The mono leader? To lower visibility? To over shock absorption?
