Fishing Map - Oxtongue Lake - OldTimer - 11-23-2012 08:25 AM

Here's a map of a OXTONGUE LAKE that I fished along the way a while ago (as you'll see on the publish date). Perhaps someone out there will benefit from this post.

The MNR used to sell these plasticized maps for anglers to use. Not anymore.

The notes on facilities may possibly be outdated? - but the lake bottom contours will be very close to those current.

One scan is the lake’s general information; one scan is the hydrographic map of the lake.

Here’s a more up to date fact sheet from the MNR published in 2010:

If they do - it may possibly be in the Oxtongue River coming down out of Algonquin Park.

From this lake the river upstream is totally navigable until it gets to Ragged Falls which is quite the drop in elevation. The base of the falls "area" may or may not be suitable???????????

Here's a few pics I took a few years back ( July 2010) (one up, one down):

I used to fish just below this Falls many years ago for trout in the late spring. There is now a "pay" public access parking lot near the base of the falls. Beautiful picturesque spot on the trails there. My lovely lady insists we go here each year when in the area.

Downstream out of Oxtongue Lake the river goes through many series of fast runs, whitewater and small falls on its way to Lake of Bays. Below Marsh's Falls (just below the Hwy 35 bridge) the river calms for the last few miles before entering Lake of Bays near Dwight.

OldTimer

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

I've already heard rumours about the Oxtongue River...maybe it's time to see if these rumours have any truths to them...but then again, these rumours are many moons ago...what was may not be now...

The river is not navigable between Oxtongue and Lake of Bays, but quite scenic.

The final run of the lower Oxtongue river spills into Lake of Bays and is navigable. Rivermouth is near Dwight. You can go upstream all the way to Marsh’s falls (just below Highway 35). Careful of sandbars located at the mouth, and 100 yards below the falls.

The 2nd pdf file will not load for me. Does anyone have a copy they could possibly email to me?

Does anyone know if the ice fishing for Lakers is any good on this lake? I'd read that rebecca was good for Lakers and allows 2 lines but I'll be staying with the wife and two small kids on a resort at oxtongue over the family day long weekend so would prefer to stay close. But would like to catch some Lakers. ..
