2013 OSF Multi-Species Challenge! - Giuga10 - 12-29-2012 04:46 PM

2013 OSF Multi-Species Challenge

Contest Judge: MuskieBait

Start: January 1st, 2013
End: December 31st, 2013

Rules:
  • All fish species (native, introduced, invasive, micro) count.
  • Fishing locations restricted to Ontario ONLY.
  • All fishing methods are allowed.
  • All fish must be caught legally. Within open season of that species. Fish must be caught on hook and line only. NO snagging, bowfishing, or netting. Fish must be caught within waters open for fishing for the particular species (no sanctuaries or targeting fish that has year round closures).
  • No exceptions for incidental catches (that is, if you were fishing for Rainbow Trout during open Trout season and you caught a Bass when Bass season is still closed, you cannot count the Bass when it is caught out of season at that location).
  • A species entry can only be counted when photographs clearly show identifying characteristics. A blurry picture will disqualify the species entry.
  • All entries can only count with a picture of the angler and a 2013 OSF OMC badge (badge can be printed and laminated). In the case if an angler is fishing alone, a picture of just the fish with the OSF OMC Badge is sufficient. In some cases, a closeup pictures of distinguishing features may be needed for identification purposes (If you catch a White Crappie, you should take multiple pictures of the identifying characteristics that differs it from a Black Crappie etc..)

If you have any questions or comments PM MuskieBait.

Submissions must be made like the one below and when adding new submissions instead of making a new comment, edit your previous one and your submissions to it.

Because MuskieBait proposed the competition he said he would not participate but would be the moderator and judge I(Giuga10) am not.

Message from MuskieBait:

Out of principle, it is hard to be partial as a moderator and judge when such person has a stake in the contest, and as such, I choose to not participate. I will strive to be fully impartial. If there are any complaints or dispute, feel free to PM me personally first before making it a public issue.

Unless you are on a multi-day trip, species entry MUST be posted online on the day of capture. Since it is difficult to verify dates (especially for legal fishing verification), this is one way to ensure the validity of the entry. I would also suggest that the species entry to include a newspaper clipping of the capture date ON THE SAME DAY! You can take a picture of the newspaper at home, or a screen capture of an online newspaper source with clearly legible date.

It is best to reveal which area you are fishing in so we can verify the validity of the catch to be within season. By this, I may need the name of the waterbody (eg. Lake Simcoe), or if you are fishing some back lakes or at a secret location, at least mention the fishing zone you are in and the closest town or city to your fishing location (eg. Zone 16, Toronto).

Fish must be treated with respect and handled gently. If the fish in the photograph is deemed handled improperly, the entry could be disqualified. Of course, this only pertains to fish that was caught and released. Fish that were kept can be given the exemption, unless the fish does not adhere by provincial catch limits regarding slot size or minimum size.

This is a fun contest. Please keep it civil. If anyone is caught cheating, I would suggest that the cheating member should be banned for the next 3 contests. Honesty is a virtue.

Have fun everybody!

There should be an option on your printer or print menu that will allow you to print in grayscale or black and white (they are the same thing).

I prefer to have this badge's black and white color swapped.

Ok Onwind, I fixed it for you. - http://i.imgur.com/ijjPd.png (It's really bland looking though)

We've got a new sub-forum for this contest Smile.

To participate simply create a new thread in this forum titled:

[your username]'s 2013 OSF Multi-Species Challenge Entries

Further, I want to say thank-you to Giuga10 for taking initiative on this when I was away!

We should also get a small badge of 2-3" so that people can properly photograph micro-sized species.

For identification help you should refer to OldTimer's fantastic guide:

http://ontarioshorefishing.com/forum/Thread-Fish-Identification

And to identify smaller species of fish such as minnows:

http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/regions/central/pub/baitfish-appat-on/page16-26-eng.htm

Guiga10, can we get this information pinned in your original post up top? Thanks!

As the same i feel about operating the ice tournament on frenchmans bay in pickering, I suggest that any person helping the tournament to operate for the day is not able to participate in the competition.

For the reason that if a Organizer won a Prize and someone had a dispute that lost against the organizer, there could be future repercussions for the event entailed.

Keeping this as fair as possible, I'd still like to see your species list throughout the year Muskiebait.. Wink ...

I can set up a separate entry under the subforum...but only for record keeping for fun Smile Last year I've caught 50+ Ontario species, both old and new species. Big Grin
