*Wil Wegman MNR Aurora District
*Mike Melnik National Fishing Week

Alesha Caldwell OFAH
*Al Crawford City of Toronto Parks and Recreation
*Diana Booth City of Toronto Parks and Recreation

the * are allies that we created by doing volunteer work
the x was an enemy to all anglers but has since been sorted out by his peers.
these are the participants over the last two to three years that i am aware of.
hope this gives perspective on the situation
for the next fishing summit that maps out all areas of the harbour that are private land or property owners such as harbourfrontcentre then all property owners that have land touching the harbour waters will be invited to voice their concerns....
that is why TUFA still has a very important role to play in early 2013 and why we invest so much effort into our community.
if TUFA is an active contributor to the community and is looked highly upon by its allies we stand a chance at protecting anglers rights to fish from the shoreline of Toronto. If we do nothing and then just report the injustices of a fishing ban to the media then were gonna get screwed.
i hope this paints the picture we are in...... Saturday i am off to support Jim Bamford and the Metro East Anglers with their Coho salmon project....putting time in to helping our community.

RE: Fishing Summit Meetings for Toronto
Thanks for such a great detailed response. List is comprised of many good people.

A few other questions:

Who controls deciding the people that will be part of this summit, and who appointed them?

How does an enemy of angling end up involved in a fishing summit, and why would he want to............or was it because of his job title that he was invited?

RE: Fishing Summit Meetings for Toronto
Many of the individuals are part of the fishing summit due to job title...others for their outstanding contribution to the sport....yet i am ingnorant of the original criteria....the summit is a closed door meeting....minutes do not become public...additions to the group are voted upon by those members and its membership is very limited. TUFA recieved a seat due to its efforts to establish political will to pass a motion to allow fishing in Toronto and lift the ban on fishing. The Fishing Summit Committee has an agenda i would expect...we are being allowed to attend to understand what changes will be made in the future...we may be able to make recommendations but thats it....this is not necessarily the democratic process you may have been hoping for or a place you can voice your concerns...i really do not believe they want to stray from their agenda.
You have asked about the TPA Fishing Derby....TPA approached Toronto Parks and Recreation too late in the season and with too limited a scope to make it happen or for TPFR to want to make it happen...not on the same page and too difficult for the kids to catch small fish from harbour walls in Oct....next year if it happens at all.
Sometimes the "Partners" in Fishing events have different agendas or priorities and the timing or teams just do not materialize...
You only have to look at the leafs for that....Toronto should have won a cup in my lifetime but they haven't yet the franchise is still sucessful.Promises are not always met not because of a lack of intent or will but other factors.

RE: Fishing Summit Meetings for Toronto
Thanks for de-mystifying things for us. When the facts are known it avoids conjecture and misunderstandings via hearsay and gossip.

The people on the list you presented are well known and generally well thought of, I am confident the majority are quite sincere in their efforts to protect and promote angling.

Too bad about the TPA derby situation – but the gentleman I had contact with last year seemed the type that will stand behind his offer and not let it fade away.

Looking forward to hearing about the summit…………… hope you’ll share.

Cheers,

OldTimer

RE: Fishing Summit Meetings for Toronto
Yes the Parks and Environment Committee Meeting occured more so out of a letter written to GM of TPFR Jim Hart by TUFA inquiring about the Fishing Summit. I was given 24 hours notice to attend and did so.
I have since been directed to speak to James Dann about fishing concerns. We have talked and things are fairly clear about TPFR stance with recreational fishing.

And what is this TPFR stance?
