Quite simply: you don't need ten tackle boxes filled with over-commercialized crap to catch fish...ANY fish.
Disregard most fishing shows. Disregard most magazines. They are nothing but thinly veiled product ads, for the most part.
The best way to fish is the one that is the most fun for you...keep it legal and have fun doing it.

To answer your question, most presentations get a bum deal. This is because most anglers don't know (and don't care to know) most of the species that exist where it is they happen to be fishing.
