I'm not too sure what you meant by using the float for retrieval. Did you mean that you wanted to use the float to bring up the crank bait for a better retrieval action. If that's what you meant, no I haven't heard of it but seems like something cool to try. Also if you just wanted to use the float to prop the crank up to the top of the water you could buy a floating crankbait, Rapala sells lots of them.
