Then again, I just fought a 50lb cownose ray (butt snagged) down in Maryland on a 4000 size spinning reel with 30lb Powerpro, 15lb mono leader and #8 baitholder hook...that was nothing short of a miracle, a lot of patience and some fish fighting know-how.

Being under-gunned must make for a very interesting situation haha.

The mono leader? To lower visibility? To over shock absorption?

Actually it's for abrasion resistance. Braid is terrible when it comes to sharp objects. Fishing saltwater means you have to deal with barnacles, oysters, crabs...etc...all of them have sharp shells. 15lb mono is more resistant to sharp objects than 30lb braid (which has diameter of 8lb mono).

Like you said, it also offer a bit of shock absorption. Visibility isn't much of an issue for a lot of saltwater fish. If they want to eat, they go for it. They are not at all finicky like freshwater fish (unless you're talking about bonefish, tarpon, permit or cobia).

Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear. I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger.

Well, mostly collecting. Anytime I can pick up fishing gear that cheap, I usually cannot pass it up Tongue.

So, instead of spending $200 once on a great set-up, I'm probably going to end up with 20 purchases of $10 and a lot of useless gear LOL....

NOPE!!! LOL you guys never come around to finish it...

Ever since I suggested that the "puzzle isn't going to do itself" my basement's been strangely vacant...

Also, I might get to bust out the huge 6000 reel on the Cali trip! Stoked!!!!
