Low Tech fishing
Perhaps we overthink things at times……….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSvQ90SNccI These things are dirt cheap – check out BassPro (8 bucks loaded with line, sinker & hook)…….. or Ebay – as cheap as 3 bucks each without line etc. Think I’ll get a few for my next saltwater trip to a pier or bridge. Might even be fun for cats, or dock sitting here in Ontario…….. Cheers, OldTimer <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

RE: Low Tech fishing
Used one many times, mostly for balloon fishing over the reef.
You can pick up the plastic ones pretty much anywhere in the Caribbean, but there are some REALLY nice hand carved wooden ones out there too. http://www.fishingtoronto.com |

RE: Low Tech fishing
Cool. I'ld love to give this a try some time.
The first fish I caught, a long time ago when I was about 5, was on a fishing line wrapped around a wooden block. The adults around me were laughing and ducking for cover as I was wildly swinging the hook trying to throw it far into the water. When the fish bit I didn't know what to so i dragged the fish back to my dad who laughed his head off. |

RE: Low Tech fishing
That's the add-on reel for when you find out that you have hooked into a 6ft barracuda on the reef.
My wooden hand reel was confiscated at customs. http://www.fishingtoronto.com |

I've lost a few things with those problems. <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

RE: Low Tech fishing
Turns out it had been hand carved out of some obscure South American hardwood. Apparently It was a big no-no to import the material without all kinds of certificates and crap.

RE: Low Tech fishing
That's too bad. I've checked around and nice wooden ones with an attractive grain and a good finish are rare (non-existant) on line.
