This also baffles me. Honestly, I don't think many travelers have anything better to do. They walk around stores at home, so they walk around new stores (with the same merch) away from home.

I'm lucky to have discovered a hobby that gives me something to do and a reason to travel. When I went on my backcountry trip last year, I did so to get some great fishing. And I did get some great fishing! My first northern pike!

Everybody else could be sitting around wondering what to do... but I know what I want to do. At the same time, while they sit around vegetating, they think I'm a total nut for wanting to fish so much! muahahah

Were you in thick vegetation? Do you think a plug with propellers or a stick bait have done the trick as well?

I tried other lures like Jitterbug, Sputterbuzz, X-Raps and spinnerbaits...but no hits on them.

It wasn't weedy where we fished. These fish prefer a more muddy bottom with a lot of debris...so we are less worried about weeds but more about snags from branches and debris in general.

They don't like rocks at all.
