Roadtrip anyone?????

I don't keep most round goby, because most of them are too small to bother filleting, and something about their skin makes me not want to fry them whole like smelt. But I feel like if I'm killing them anyway, I should at least consider eating the occasional big one, depending on legalities and health concerns which is what I'm trying to figure out now.

Oddly, the MOE's sportfish consumption guide (which doesn't provide advisories for gobies for individual water bodies) has a entry for gobies in its "other consumption concerns" section, yet unlike all the other such entries, it doesn't actually say anything about food safety for gobies! The only "concern" it mentions for them is that it's illegal to possess them alive.

I'm not too concerned about that actually... the way I've read about it, the concern about those types of contaminants is that since round gobies go through so much food for their size they accellerate bioaccumulation in the predators that eat them. But many of those predators are fish that the MOE does provide consumption advisories for, like bass and pike, and which are still judged as fairly safe to eat.

So really my concern would be toxins/diseases that aren't avoided by cooking, or that are so easily spread as to make it dangerous to even have a round goby in the house.

Back on the original topic as well, didn't pacu create a panic when one was ID'd in northern Europe, because of the idea that their propensity for eating nuts makes them castrate male swimmers causing death by bloodloss? Does anyone believe/worry about that in their native range?
