Some species hunting stats...
I track my species list using Excel spreadsheet. With a few simple formulas, you can generate a bit of stats. Here are some fun stats from my species list...

Canada: 74 new species (ON = 59, BC = 15)

Most productive country: USA with 152 new species (CA = 59, HI = 31, FL = 30, GA = 8, VA = 8, MD = 7, MA = 5, NY = 3)...total estimated days fished = 111 (how's that for efficiency!)

Continental North America: 181

Most productive country outside of North America: Thailand with 13 new species

Freshwater: 85
Saltwater: 172
Brackish: 11
Anadromous: 9

New species by year since I started keeping track...

1998: 6 (combining catches since 1993 when I first started fishing)
1999: 3
2000: 4
2001: 10
2002: 5
2003: 1 (I must have been slacking off!)
2004: 3
2005: 4
2006: 3
2007: 30 (I seriously adopted species fishing...and started traveling)
2008: 13
2009: 35
2010: 53 (year I traveled the most!)
2011: 36
2012: 71 Exclamation

I'm still trying to add some new species this year...hoping to at least get to 75 new species for the year...and if my Christmas plan can go forward, maybe even hit 100 new species for 2012 Idea

This stuff is FUN!

Amazing record.

For interest's sake ............Did you track how many you ate? Which was best?

<>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><>

See you on the river.

Didn't track how many I ate...

But I can tell you that the freshly caught yellowfin tuna and skipjack tuna was THE BEST!!!

Now, if I have freshly caught pompano and spanish mackerel...there may be new contenders for the best tasting fish. Big Grin

RE: Some species hunting stats...
Really cool stats!

I would expect the number of new fish to go down each year because you would run out of fish to catch! Clearly not the case Tongue

As I get more serious into micro-fishing, I expect the numbers to climb even more. Big Grin

Virginia alone has some 50+ species of darters...no kidding! Wink
