RE: Surf Fishing Central Florida Atlantic Coast
Hello GB,

Here’s a link to the current (2022) Saltwater regs re Florida:

https://www.eregulations.com/florida/saltwater

Go to the link above & download the PDF file of the complete regs.

This pdf document contains a handy collection of colour pictures of many species to help you identify fish, and see any special limits or seasons or regional restrictions.

Read the regs and note the seasons, catch limits, and size limits/slots re the listed fish.

Read the section on “unregulated” species.

Also note that some species require special additional “tag” licences (snook, tarpon……….)

**
Yes – if you thoroughly wash your “fresh water” gear VERY well with fresh tap water soon after using it in the salt you may get by without problems. However it’s not something I would do. Most rods you now own may be too short and too light……….. and your reels may be of too small a capacity, not salt/sand proof, and may not have heavy enough drags.

You might try checking out the prices of brand name salt water gear on the USA Walmart website. You may find that getting a half decent quality salt water rod/reel setup isn’t all that much in a Florida state Walmart (or local bait shop). After all …….why avoid an opportunity for a trip to a tackle store!

Cheers,

OldTimer
