I havent seen any baitcasters, there are a couple of really crappy, plastic spinning reels but they are probably just going straight into the trash

LOL, your reel is just old.

These are horrible, plastic crap. Even the main toothed drive cog on the spindle is not metal, it's nylon. When you put the reverse lock on, the spool goes backwards about three quarters of a full turn before locking.....

The bass pro telescopic rod might be a bit newer than your old one though.....
