Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
Not really shame but though it was funny....
Maybe a thread to post our unsuccessful outings? Had a rough day at long sault yesterday... Cold snap was the Likely. factor hoping for carp but could not get even a gobbie to bite. |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
Like this thread... get that skunky stink off my chest..
My last 2 trips suck as well... Trip1: Tried new spot that look promising and stayed out in the cold but only got 1 little rock bass to bite Trip2: Big cats suppose to be here but only got 1. Spent hours battling the wind, bird nest, more wind. At least the bugs are not biting. Double whammy if you got skunked and bugs ate your face. |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
I thought I was the only one lol
I was skunked in my first ~6 outings of the year, but my last three trips have resulted in some yellow perch, rock bass and bullhead catfish. I figure my skunkings were due to the cold weather. The skunkings were at various locations including ponds/small lakes, a river and a creek. |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
Everyone gets skunked the odd time.
I'm up to 2 blanks myself so far this year. But they were still enjoyable outings. It's not just about the fish for me. <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
Same here. But there is something to be learned about not catching and what people do to turn it around or the lessons learned.
It's sometimes nice to see that people have been out and not caught anything than just always posting about the success. opinions may (and usually do) vary |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
True......... I try to review every detail of the outing in my mind after a skunk to learn what things I may have done wrong, or what negative conditions may have contributed to the lack of success.
It's never the fish's fault............. so I've come to accept..............................repeatedly........ smile...........sigh <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |

RE: Skunk thread (aka the walk of shame)
Been doing well this spring...haven't skunked yet.
You can avoid skunks by fishing prime time for each species as these prime periods progress through the seasons. Alter your targets and fish for what is more productive at the moment. Don't get stuck with only your specific target. For example, trying to catch salmon in the creeks in July is probably a certainty to be skunked. Catching odds and ends also help your to avoid a skunk. Don't be so stuck on your target...be opportunistic and take advantage of what is in front of you. As you pay more attention to the season and the peaks and valleys of fish activity, you will refine your timing better and better...and one day there will not be any slow period at all. There are simply too many opportunities at the moment. A lot of fish are spawning and they are easy pickings... Malama o ke kai Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear. I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger. Life List: 577 species and counting (2016: 91 new species) http://muskiebaitadventures.blogspot.ca/...-list.html |

There's no shame in getting skunked so long as you put in an honest effort.
