RE: High capacity DIY rod rack ideas anyone?
Had a fancy wall horizontal rack once, had the round vertical rack too............. key words = "had"........... they are pretty but not so much functional for both fresh and salt water gear.
Right now I use two of the larger plastic flight case tubes opened up to produce 4 tubes which rest open end up in plain old 5 gallon pails in the corner of my "fishing closet". The 4 tubes give "compartments" for sorting some of my rods into "groups" and the open space gets the rest - with perhaps 2 to 4 rods all set up with reels attached leaning in a corner (ready to go) and the real heavy pool cues set off by themselves. I've found over time that it is not real wise to try and store all your rods all the time with reels attached. It takes more space and elevates the risk of reel damage or chipping/cracking from a fall over. I've learned that protection from UV light is a good thing and will extend the life of the finish and plastic/neoprene trim and grips on your rods and reels. My dad had a 5 gallon bucket down south that he had drilled around the circumference at the top and laced parachute cord through in a horizontal sorta spider web fashion to store his rods vertically. Had four bricks in the bottom for weight to stop overturning. Not fancy but it did work quite well for quite a few rods (and half them were wow size 3-section salt). Probably cost him under $10. Cheers, OldTimer edit: that should get yer "Red Green" approach going................. <>< I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. ><> See you on the river. |
